Bobby is the founding member of the private equity team at Tata Capital having joined the firm in late 2007 to help conceptualize, nurture and build the firm’s private equity franchise, which today manages about USD 1 billion in AUM.
He is also the first employee and Partner of the advisory team for the Tata Opportunities Fund, a USD 600 million third-party private equity fund that invests in attractive off-market transactions leveraging the network and relationships of the Tata group. Since its final closing in March 2013, the fund has committed over USD 400 million to several market leading portfolio companies including Tata Sky, Varroc Engineering (auto-parts), Shriram Properties, TVS Logistics, Tata Projects, Ginger Hotels and more recently Uber Technologies. Based in Mumbai, Bobby champions new investment opportunities and drives value creation as the fund’s nominee on the Board of select portfolio companies.
Prior to this, Bobby served as a strategy consultant at Tata Strategic Management Group, where he helped establish his firm’s private equity practice and also led ‘India Entry’ advisory services for global organizations entering India. Apart from assisting several Tata companies and the group’s investment holding companies in areas of strategy, M&A and operations, Bobby also led a team that assisted the Investment Commission of India on strategies to expand private investment in India.
Bobby secured his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, and graduated from the Mechanical Engineering program of College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University. In the year 2000, the Confederation of Indian Industry honoured Bobby as a Young Business Leader of Tomorrow.
